Neighborhood

Barberton

Barberton is known as the Magic City, due to the exceptional population growth it experienced during its industrial years. The city recently completed a $75 million construction and renovation project of its school buildings. The project consisted of a new middle school and two new elementary schools that are LEED certified for their energy efficient designs. The Barberton High School and stadium were renovated, and a new field house was built on-site. For continuing education, Stark State College has a satellite center in the city, and the University of Akron is within 10 miles.

Access to Major Cities & Highways

Barberton has direct access to I-76 and 224, and is a short distance from Route 21 and I-77. It is centrally located between Akron (9 miles), Canton (25 miles), and Cleveland (41 miles).

Parks & Recreation

Barberton offers 16 neighborhood parks, with amenities including tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, and pavilions. The city is centered around Lake Anna, a natural spring lake surrounded by a 21 acre park that includes fishing areas and paved walking paths. Within 15 miles is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, one of the most visited national parks in the country. The park spans 33,000 acres between Cleveland and Akron, along the Cuyahoga River, and offers an abundance of recreational activities, such as bike-riding, kayaking, and golfing. The Ohio Erie Canal Towpath runs through Barberton, with two trailhead locations and a pedestrian bridge leading directly to the downtown area.

Shopping, Dining, & Entertainment

While Barberton is nicknamed the “Chicken Dining Capital of the World,” it offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, and local diners. The city’s Fourth Friday events invite residents to explore the downtown shops and enjoy live music, art, and food. The city’s Magical Theater Company is one of only six resident children’s theaters in the country. Other attractions include the Fast Lane bowling and event center, and Lake 8 Movies.

Events

Lake Anna is a hub for many events throughout the year, such as live summer concerts. In 2017, the city celebrated its 60th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which includes a parade, pageant, fishing derby, petting zoo, food vendors, and rides. Each fall, the Mum Festival features an artistic display of thousands of chrysanthemums, a water-skiing show, canoe races, sand sculpting, food and entertainment.
